A 55-year-old man from a village in the Ratnagiri region of India fought bravely against a leopard to save his pet dog.
According to a report from The Times of India, the incident occurred last Sunday (16th) in the morning when Ashish Mahajan heard his dog’s cries.
When he went outside to check what was happening, he saw that his dog was about to be attacked by a wild leopard.
However, when the leopard saw Mahajan, it turned and attacked him. “The leopard was about to attack the dog, but Mahajan tried to push it away. But then the leopard attacked Mahajan,” a close friend of his told The Times of India.
He was able to defend himself after his wife threw him a sharp object. “In self-defense, Mahajan struck the leopard in the neck and chest. Mahajan is receiving treatment, and his condition is stable.”
The animal died from its injuries. “[He] will be compensated for the hospital expenses. People living in the area have been asked to stay alert when venturing outdoors,” said Girija Desai-Patil, a forest official from the Ratnagiri region.
